Myers Funeral Home was founded in 1910 by S. Harper Myers after attending the Eckels College of Embalming and Sanitary Science in Philadelphia, graduating in 1910 when he was declared “a master of the mysteries of the art of Embalming and of Sanitary Science.” Eckels was founded and operated by relatives of the late Mabel Eckels who owned and operated the Eckels Drug Store & Ice Cream Parlor which was located across the street from the funeral home and which is now owned and operated by Deb McCreary, a Myers - Buhrig team member.
In 1936, Harper was joined by his two sons, Martin L. Myers and Charles L. Myers. Martin remained in Mechanicsburg with his father while Charles opened a funeral home in Camp Hill. In 1958, the third generation, Boyd L. Myers, Sr., joined his father and grandfather. The firm was purchased by Martin in the early 1960s, and when he retired in 1977 it was purchased by Boyd Sr., who owned the firm until his death in 2009.
In April of 2011, Boyd Sr.’s widow entrusted Harper, Martin and Boyd Sr.’s legacy to Bob Buhrig who began his funeral service career at the firm in 1987. On April 8, 2011, a crematory was added which is reflected in our current name, Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory. Later in 2011, we became a full service monument dealer and added full cafe and reception services. We have undergone significant improvements and upgrades to the buildings, the parking lots and the technology, all to better serve our community.
Bob owns and operates the funeral home and crematory with the help of a fantastic team of caring people, including: Erica (Carl) Hallett, Michele "Missy" (Beistline)Motter, Liz Dolan, Deb McCreary, Joanne Neimer, Gary Scicchitano, Dan Maguire, George Spangler, Carol & Glenn Huffer, Harry Horne, Bob Carey, Bev & Rick Coleman, Tim Yeakle, Joe Skasko, Jami Steiner, Sue Harley, and Michael Forte. With more than 105 years of collective service, Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory is the longest serving funeral establishment in Mechanicsburg.
