Doris Jean (Gilbert) Dumm

A Caring and Thoughtful Woman -

Doris Jean (Gilbert) Dumm, age 87, of Shiremanstown, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 21, 2017.  Doris was born on Friday, March 7, 1930 in Lewistown to the late Lester L. Gilbert and Verna L. (Carper) Harbst.  Doris was the widow of Donald “Don” Cecil Dumm, whom she married on December 25, 1947, and who died on October 20, 1999.  In addition to her parents and husband, Doris is preceded in death by her brother, Tom Harbst.

Doris’s survivors include her loving son, Brian Dumm and his husband, Cesar Alonso, of Shiremanstown; her sister, Judy Grassmyer and her husband, John, of Dillsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Doris was a caring and thoughtful woman who always thought of everything and everyone.  She was smart, creative, and meticulous, which was seen in the perfectly decorated and organized home that she kept.  Doris was always thinking of how she could add to her home décor by doing lots of online shopping.  She often shared her creativity and talent for decorating with others when they asked for her advice.  Doris was also a giving and dependable person; she was constantly there for others when they needed her.  She will be missed deeply by all those that knew her and had the opportunity to experience her kind and giving spirit.

All are welcome to join Doris’s family at her graveside service on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, 17011; with Pastor Mark Grassmyer officiating.

Doris’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Doris’s full obituary and sign her official guest book at

Dear Brian, please accept my heartfelt sympathies. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Mom and a long time friend and neighbor of my Mom. Doris was a wonderful lady who had the most immaculate home I have ever seen. She had a great sense of humor and I loved talking with her. Many times she, my Mom and I would sit out on the front porch and talk for hours. She surely will be missed. RIP Doris and know that you were loved! ❤️
