John “Mike” Michael Kucek

Loved to Volunteer and Help Others -

John “Mike” Michael Kucek, age 67, of Mechanicsburg, was called Home peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.  Mike was born on Sunday, December 18, 1949 in Clear Fork, WV to the late John Peter Kucek and Beulah Fay (Hinkle) Kucek.

John’s survivors include his wife of 46 years, Diana (Hesse) Kucek; his four children: Amy Kucek and her husband, James Jayko, of Malvern, PA, Christina Kucek and her daughter, Alaina Sophia Jones, of Boca Raton, FL, John Paul Kucek and his wife, Stephanie, and their son, John Owen Kucek, of Atlanta, GA, Mary Elizabeth Kucek and her fiancé, Dr. Devin Bustin, of Tallahassee, FL; his two sisters: Gail Satterfield and her husband, Byron, of Bluefield, WV, Joan Webster and her husband, Bill, of Oceana, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

Mike graduated from Marshall University in 1970.  He worked as a manager for IBM in Camp Hill for over 26 years and then as a Branch Manager for CAI in Harrisburg for over 17 years and until his death.  Mike had a true passion for life and enjoyed being a practical joker.  Everyone who knew Mike knew that he loved his cars and golfing but that above all he was deeply devoted to his beloved wife and their loving children who were such blessings in his life.

Mike was proud to have helped create the Jake Gittlen Memorial Golf and Fishing Tournaments benefitting cancer research.  He was deeply involved with Little League Baseball having served as the Upper Allen Township Little League Baseball Commissioner for five years and having coached for over 19 years and much of that time coaching with his wife, Diana.  In fact, Diana, with Mike by her side, founded a girl’s fast-pitch softball league in Mechanicsburg and Upper Allen Township where Mike was a coach.  There were so many instances of Mike volunteering and helping other people but he remained a private and humble person knowing that his reward would not be recognition in this life but in Heaven.

All are welcome to join Mike’s family for a time of greeting of family and friends on Saturday, June 24, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  They ask that those who knew and loved Mike remember and honor him by supporting the American Cancer Society who works tirelessly to end such a terrible disease.  Donations can be made by mail to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 897, Hershey, PA  17033; by telephone by dialing 1-800-227-2345; or on the web at https://www.cancer.org/involved/donate/memorial-giving.html.

Mike’s family has entrusted his care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Mike’s full obituary, view his memorial video and pictures, and sign his official guest book at Buhrig.com.

Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt love goes out to the Kucek family in this most difficult of times. Mike defined the true meaning of a "friend", "father" and "husband". Mike will always be missed and never forgotten. May he rest in peace and comfort in God's loving and caring hands.

Diana and family,
I send my condolences and prayers for you and your family.
I have many fond memories of Mike in high school as well as in college
he was always a pleasure to be around.
I had been praying for him since I heard he was ill. His sister Joan told me
about his illness and also that he was trusting the Lord no matter the outcome.
I thank God for that and I look forward to seeing him in glory.
Praise the Lord !!!

The legacy of Mike is deep, wide, and global. He always made me want to love Christ more and serve Christ with all my heart and strength. I will greatly miss him but have the blessed hope of one day gathering around the Throne of God and worshipping the Savior with others from every tribe, nation, tongue, and people groups, many who will be there because of Mike's life and passion.

Mr. Kucek was an interesting person whom I met while interviewing with him at CAI and then knowing him more after being hired and working at CAI. I appreciated his honesty and his commitment to his family, his church but most of all his true love for God. He always made me laugh when he would say he met somebody that knew me and then would say "so now I know all about you" which I would then in turn say "you know nothing about me" as we laughed.

When it is your time you will be back with Mike in heaven but for now just know that he is watching out for all of you from above and his love for your was abundant.

No words can really help to ease the loss you bear.

Be mindful it's the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you'll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles.

May He who knows your sorrow bring peace, comfort, and healing to you and your family.

Mike was a terrific person. He will be missed...

Our prayers are with you and your family.

Enjoyed playing golf with him several times and driving up 2nd st in Harrisburg following Mike's theory that if you go 27 miles per hour you never hit any lights.... and he was right
Our deepest condolences and hope your great memories help you smile during this time of loss

How very sad this heart of mine feels. Many, many hours were spent at the Kucek home because of Gail's and my friendship.... for so many years....and Mike being the "younger" brother - what fun. He was always such a kind and loving boy. Cannot think of all those wonderful memories without Mike being part of them. Jesus' blessings and very present help is prayed for each of you now, and in the days ahead. Remembering with love.

Thank you for sharing Mike with Martha and me and the Healing Hope Missions Family. He was my "Big Brother" confidant and closest friend. While I will miss him, I will continually see him through the thousands of people whose lives have been touched and changed by his generosity, love for Jesus and concern for their welfare. He lives on through a great multitude around the world. He is now at peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I was so sorry to read about Mike's passing in the Beckley newspaper. He and I were classmates and Gail just a year ahead of us. We grew up with shared values and experiences. I remember Mike's kindness, his great smile and courteous demeanor. He was ever the gentleman. I watched the memorial video and saw what a beautiful family he had. His love for his family was apparent. My heart goes out to the Kucek family. May all your wonderful memories help you through this sad time.

To the Kucek Family
I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love. —Leo Buscaglia
Mike was my first manager at IBM. He was a great guy! I will never forget him. He truly was a lot of fun and a pleasant guy to work for. I still remember my first day at IBM! It takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, and a day to love them, but it takes an entire lifetime to forget them. Mike will never be forgotten!

I remember his strength, strong voice, dedication to CAI and love of his family. I've shed tears of joy because He was a believer and is with the Lord and suffers no more but the sadness I feel is for those who really loved him, you loved excellence. We were so sad to read of Mike's passing in the newspaper. Our memories with you, Mike and Mary go back to softball days with the girls. It was always fun to be around both of you as you both enjoyed your family so much and it was clear the importance of family in your lives from the time we met you. Mike was always upbeat, funny and just an all around good guy. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers. I'm sure it saddened him to leave all of you behind, but I'm also sure he could rest easy knowing of the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. Many blessings to you and your family during this difficult time.
