Nicholas “Nick” Robert Vogl

A Loyal and Generous Man -

Nicholas “Nick” Robert Vogl, age 29, of Mechanicsburg, passed away suddenly after a swimming accident and went to his final home on Saturday, June 24, 2017.  Nick was born on Saturday, April 9, 1988 in Harrisburg to Brian John Vogl and Patricia “Patti” Ann (Ensslen) Vogl.  He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert Edward Vogl; his paternal grandmother, Flora Gaynor (Mowry) Vogl; and his maternal step-grandfather, Russell Gavlak.

Nick’s survivors include his loving parents, Brain and Patti Vogl of Mechanicsburg; his brother, Benjamin “Ben” Vogl and his fiancé, Brittany, of Camp Hill; his maternal grandmother, Pat Gavlak of Mechanicsburg; his maternal grandfather, Bob Ensslen and his wife, Sandy, and their daughter, Anysia, of Mechanicsburg; his maternal aunt and uncle: Barb Goll and her husband, Bruce, of Camp Hill, Bobby Ensslen and his wife, Terry, of Gilead, ME; his paternal uncles and aunt: Mark and his wife, Barbara, of Big Sandy, TX, Kevin and his wife, JoAnn, of Coral Springs, FL, Greg and his wife, Chris, of Mount Dora, FL, Sharon of Fairfax, VA; his paternal cousins: Kelly Vogl, Julie Czerechowski, Kristen Vogl, Robert Vogl, Stephanie Vogl, Amanda LeFranc and her husband, Jesse; and his maternal cousins: Jessica Ensslen, Christina Miller and her husband, Ryan, Jenny Kane and her husband, Mike, Phil Mertine, Kelsey Goll, Rachel Ensslen, and Hunter Cline.

Nick graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 2006 and from Harrisburg Area Community College in 2011 from the IEC Electrician Apprenticeship Program where he earned his Journeyman Electrician Certification.  He loved his job at Rite Aid Corporation in Shiremanstown where he served as a repair technician.  Nick’s coworkers delighted in working with him and they loved having such a hardworking associate by their side.  Recently, Nick had earned the Employee of the Quarter Award for his phenomenal work and achievements at Rite Aid.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg.

As Nick was growing up he played all different types of sports, but golf became his absolute favorite.  In high school, Nick joined the golf team and found that to be a passion of his that continued into his adulthood.  He liked to follow all kinds of sports, especially the Philadelphia Eagles and LeBron James.  Nick had a great sense of humor and an even better sense of style; he always looked good everywhere he went.  The most important thing to Nick was his family; he loved all of his cousins and considered them to be his siblings.  He was always looking forward to the next time they would all get together.  Nick loved the holidays, particularly Christmas Eve, since it meant the entire family would all be near one another.  He also cherished the time they would spend on vacations together, specifically in Ocean City, NJ.  Nick and his brother were very close and they shared an exceptionally special and strong bond.  He was a generous man with an immensely huge heart; Nick will be missed for his wit, loyalty, and beautiful personality.

All are welcome to join Nick’s family at his memorial service on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 135 West Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Dr. Dennis Keller officiating.  Cremation was private.

In honor of Nick’s generous and giving spirit, the family suggests that everyone helps keep his memory alive by serving and assisting those who are less fortunate as Nick did.

Nick’s family has entrusted his care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Nick’s full obituary, view his memorial video and portrait, and sign his official guest book at

We Met in 6th Grade and even though we barely talked since then, I still think of you as a friend. The last time we hung out was fun, so it is nice to have that be the last memory of you.

Your family is in my prayers.

We met at work. Since you started working in our Department we grew closer as friends. Sharing stories about our weekends and looking forward to the golf outting we were planning with a few other friends at work. Now i sit beside an empty desk that once was yours. And now i find myself missing a friend not a co-worker. You will be missed dearly!

I want to send my deepest condolences out to his family.

I had the opportunity to play some golf with Nick not very long ago, and had a great time with him. I realized that he had grown from what I had known as fun loving teen-ager into a remarkable young man in just the last few years, whom his parent should be very proud of.
It's a mystery to me why certain people are taken away from us when least expected, and long before what we think is the appropriate time, but I am sure that there must be greater plans for him right now and he has some important work to do.
I know he will do a good job at it and will enjoy every minute. Till we meet again Nick, take care.

I feel like it was yesterday that we were sharing laughs at Als with Ben and Brittany. You always had a way of easing the mood and bringing joy to those around you. I don't understand why great people have to be taken from our world so abruptly but I know our lord has a good reason behind it.

Our prayers are with the Vogl family.

Rest in peace and take it easy brother.

Patty, Brian, and Ben,

I am so sorry for your loss. Nick and I had great times over the years, especially at the beach with your family. While it had been some time since we saw each other I am crushed. Nick would make me laugh so hard I would be crying. His smile was infectious and so was his laugh. Find strength and peace through your faith.

Nick - Rest easy old friend, so many memories it's hard not to laugh and cry.

Peace be with you all.

You were so special to Fran, myself and our kids. All our nights out or nights in at our house together filled with so many had the best laugh, it lit up the room. You were so good to Lila, playing with her nonstop and the airplane drone you bought her for her 4th birthday. She will never forget you. Xavier will proudly sport the Michael Jordan onesie you bought him, and I can't wait until his little feet are big enough for his Jordan sneakers.
Thank you for coming over and teaching Fran how to make delicious homemade Chicken pot pie while I was pregnant, spaghetti dinners when Xavier was just a few weeks old.. It will forever hurt having you gone.
We love you. Thank you for touching our lives...
Swing away on that big green course in the sky.
Love always,
Fran, Hannah, Lila and Xavier

Brian, Patti and Ben:
I cannot even come up with words to express words hearing of Nick's passing. I have fond memories of him as a teen. Although I had left the area, First Church's congregation is and always will be my family. It continues to break my heart when I am made aware of the amazing members that I lost contact with. All the knew your family knows that God opened His gates wide for Nick's arrival and he has been met by, sadly, many of our fellow members. I'm sure that Don Ciampa was right there welcoming him. My thoughts and prayers are definitely with your family.

Dear Patti, Brian, and family
The worst life can offer has descended upon you. We are so sorry for your tragic loss. I know the depth of your grief, and that it will be with you for quite awhile. I lost my 25 year old brother suddenly also. He was born when I was 17 years old. I held a more maternal attitude toward him that sisterly. My experience was as close to loosing my own child as can be had without that actually being the case. The pain of this loss is profound. Please, if you need to talk to someone who has been where you are now, call me.
We pray for you. Accept your grief and let it's expression and release give you new strength to go on with your life.
Deepest Sympathy

what a total shock and sense of loss to have lost Nick from our family of workers here at Rite Aid.
I always counted on Nick to sport a smile and be so very upbeat and happy. It brightened everyone's day to be around him.
As I walk past his empty work area it is so hard to understand how we could lose such a fine friend.
Thank you for all the good you spread around anywhere you were and the happiness you brought to this world.
