Amy Jo (Starzl) Bonawitz

Always Authentic and True to Herself -

Amy Jo (Starzl) Bonawitz, age 42, of New Cumberland, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017.  Amy was born on Wednesday, October 9, 1974 in Pender, NE to Joseph Michael Starzl and Brenda Cheryl (Dunagan) Jensen.

Amy’s survivors include her husband, Cleve Andrew Bonawitz; her three children: Amanda Snyder of Mesa, AZ, Cory Snyder of New Cumberland, PA, Derek Snyder of New Cumberland, PA; her grandson, Graham Rook of Bloomsburg, PA; her mother, Brenda Jensen and her husband, John, of Mesa, AZ; her father, Joseph Starzl of Hershey, PA; her two siblings: Lou Starzl and his wife, Carrie Booth, of Elizabethtown, PA, Kara Starzl of Mesa, AZ; her maternal grandfather, Darrel Dunagan of Sgt. Bluff, IA; and her beloved feline companion, Mr. Kitty.

Amy graduated from Hershey High School as part of the class of 1993.  She worked at Highmark Blue Shield in Camp Hill for the last two years as a customer service agent.  Amy loved reading, especially novels written by Stephen King.  She was an extremely talented woman when it came to art and tennis.  Amy won an award with a museum at the age of 12 for her artistic aptitude.  She cherished spending time with her family.  Her children remember how she would play with them in the backyard as they grew up and her mother recalls that Amy always made point to spend time with her.  Amy’s brother and sister also look back on how their sister, being the oldest, would always play pranks on them.  Her life changed when she met her husband, Cleve, and she was the happiest she had ever been while the two were married.  Amy was his world and she truly blossomed as a person.  Amy loved to laugh and she had a sharp sense of humor that she shared with everyone.  One of her most distinguished qualities was the fact that she was never afraid to live her life her way.  Amy was always authentic and true to herself, no matter what other people thought.  She will be truly missed for all of her beautiful attributes and zest for life.

All are welcome to join Amy’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until time of service at 6:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Bob Buhrig officiating.  Cremation was private.

Brenda and family,
Roger and I are saddened at the thought of Amy's passing. Our hearts ache for you and your family' loss as we remember what a pretty baby and cute toddler she was. Sadly, our paths went so many separate ways that we didn't get to know her as an adult.
Please know all of you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Friends, M.A. & Roger

I know Amy since the first day she started at Hershey middle school in 1988 and we have been friends since then. A year could go by and we would call each other and it was like it wasn't a year. I'm gonna miss so much. I heart breaks for the family and especially for her children!! My deepest smpthany goes out to all that were touch by her. I'll never forget you Amy and until we meet again my friend love you
