Grace Irene (Fought) Failor

Good and Faithful Servant -

Grace Irene (Fought) Failor, 95, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully in her home with loved ones by her side on Sunday, October 15, 2017.  She was born on Wednesday, November 9, 1921 in Silver Spring Township to the late Earl J. Fought and Sarah E. (Fisher) Fought.  Grace was the widow of Glenn H. Failor, whom she married on April 4, 1942 and who died on June 18, 1977.  In addition to her parents and husband, Grace is preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Slagle; her six brothers; and her sister.

Grace’s survivors include her three daughters: Joyce Kirby and her husband, Carl, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Judy Jackson and her husband, Glenn, of Cincinnati, OH, Susan Whitcomb and her husband, Michael, of Mechanicsburg, PA; her 11 grandchildren; her 17 great-grandchildren; her five great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Grace was a lifelong member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, where she volunteered with various church activities over the years. Deeply devoted to her church, she could only be described as “a good and faithful servant.” Grace enjoyed helping others, also volunteering with Meals on Wheels for many years. A social woman who embraced the company of friends, she bowled on a league at Trindle Bowl in Mechanicsburg and always looked forward to playing cards with her friends. Grace had a wonderful sense of humor, making people laugh with her funny observations and willingness to poke fun at herself.  Above all else, Grace cherished her family. She never missed an opportunity to express how proud she was of them—and how much she loved them.

All are welcome to join Grace’s family at her viewing on Thursday, October 19, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Trindle Spring Lutheran Church, 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; with Pastor Aaron M. Erdley officiating.  Burial will follow in Trindle Spring Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.  Honored to be pallbearers are David Kirby, Robert Engle, Ryan Whitcomb, Darren Jackson, Devin Kessler, Alex Kirby, George Thompson, and William Thompson.  Grace’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the burial.

Grace took great pride in being a breast cancer survivor; therefore, the family suggests that contributions in celebration of Grace’s life can be made to the American Cancer Society, 112 Sipe Avenue, Hummelstown, PA

Grace’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Grace’s full obituary, view her memorial video and picture, and sign her official guest book at

I "met" Mrs. Failor through the loving stories of her daughter, Sue. Over the years I grew to admire her spirit and devotion to family. I know she will be sorely missed but her positive influence will continue.
