Helen May (Manhollan) Treharne

The Strongest Woman -

Helen May (Manhollan) Treharne, age 93, of Mechanicsburg, was reunited with her husband on Saturday, July 4, 2020.  Helen was born on Friday, December 24, 1926, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late John Manhollan and Mary Erama (Pittzer) Manhollan.  Helen was the widow of David William Treharne, Jr., whom she married on March 2, 1945, and who died on July 23, 2002.  In addition to her parents and husband, Helen is preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Steffen; her infant great-granddaughter, Abby Lee Treharne; her nine brothers and sisters; and her beloved canine companion, Tucker.

Helen’s survivors include her seven children: Donald Treharne and wife Donna Jean, Nancy Kline of Mechanicsburg, Charles “Chuck” Treharne and wife Betsy of Carlisle, Deb “Debbie” Norford of Lewisberry, Sharon Swope and husband David of Mechanicsburg, David Treharne, III and wife Nancy of Mechanicsburg, Helen Conti and husband Paul of Mechanicsburg; her 10 grandchildren; her 17 great-grandchildren; her brother, Ray Manhollan; her two sisters: Mary Lou Stricklin, Nellie Auman; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen worked in the bakery in Giant Food Stores on Route 114 and was a member of the VFW Memorial Post 6704, both in Mechanicsburg.  She was an excellent cook who liked to garden and can.  Helen loved going to the beach, primarily the Outer Banks.  She also enjoyed golfing almost daily, and preferred to walk instead of riding in a golf cart.  She liked to play bingo at the VFW in Harrisburg.  Helen delighted in ballroom dancing with her husband, especially the polka and jitterbug.  Some of Helen’s favorite foods included both fried and peel & eat shrimp with a spicy cocktail sauce, as well as hot, hot wings with a nice cold beer.  Family was at the center of her life and it was an absolute joy for Helen when everyone could get together during the holidays.  She never once complained about the kids or any pain she felt which defined Helen as the strongest woman her family ever knew.

All are welcome to join Helen’s family at her viewing; or via video chat or telephone, on Friday, July 10, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:45 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Patti Vogl officiating.  Burial will immediately follow the service in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Jayden Mitchel, Shane Norford, Spence Reynolds, Dave Swope, Chuck Treharne, and David Treharne.
