Linda Jo (Wirt) McNertney
Friend to Everyone -
Linda Jo (Wirt) McNertney, age 74, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home and surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Linda was born on Tuesday, April 23, 1946, in Lewistown to the late Bernal Elmer Wirt and Ruth Estella (Benner) Wirt. Linda was the widow of Richard “Mac” Lawrence McNertney, whom she married on July 2, 1970, and who died on January 24, 2014.
Linda’s survivors include her two sons: Shawn McNertney of Mechanicsburg, Brian McNertney and wife Erica of Highland Village, Texas; four grandsons: Brody, Benjamin, Dylan and Cameron; her three sisters: Sandy Quinlan, Carolyn Gearhart, and Jackie Scott; and her several nieces and nephews.
Linda graduated from Juniata High School as part of the class of 1964 and she was the tallest player on her high school basketball team. During her four years on the basketball team, they won every game. She was employed in various jobs over the years, from a florist to a lunch lady, and from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to Book-of-the-Month Club in Mechanicsburg. Linda was devoted to her boys and extremely supportive of her children and grandchildren. She always made her grandchildren’s school and extracurricular events a priority. Linda’s family loved her cooking, but her grilled cheese and homemade tomato soup were their favorite. She also enjoyed driving her husband’s “fast” cars really fast! Every weekend, Linda liked to visit state parks, go for bike rides, and have cook outs with her family and sister Jackie. The time that was spent with her sisters was very special to Linda and the ladies treasured the memories they made. Linda absolutely loved going to card club, which she referred to as “girl’s night”, and her bowling league. She valued a simple life without any drama or conflict. Linda was a friend to any and every one, having made long-time dear friends.
