Edith Mae (Lichtenberger) Lehman, age 94, of Mechanicsburg, PA, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Edith was born on Wednesday, February 14, 1923 in Carlisle, PA to the late Harry Edwin Lichtenberger and Zora Ellen (Baitsell) Lichtenberger. Edith was the widow of Robert Samuel Lehman, Sr., whom she married on August 14, 1943, and who died on July 26, 1993. In addition to her parents and husband, Edith is preceded in death by her son, Donald Lehman; and her grandson, Jason Rosado.
Edith’s survivors include her eight children: Lois Nester and her husband, Francis, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Jean Heise and her husband, David, of Lowbanks, Ontario Canada, Fern Steckbeck and her husband, Millard, of Mt. Joy, PA, Robert “Bob” Lehman, Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Dillsburg, PA, Ruth Rosado and her husband, Carlos, of Waynesboro, PA, Mary Simmons and her husband, Ray, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Steven Lehman and his wife, Diane, of Oklahoma City, OK, Beth Roush of Liverpool, PA; her 28 grandchildren; her 48 great-grandchildren; her six great great-grandchildren; her three sisters: Elizabeth Myers of Mechanicsburg, PA, Grace Pierce of Annville, PA, Ethel Barnett of Carlisle, PA; her special friend and caregiver, Jackie Peel; and many nieces and nephews.
Edith graduated from Good Hope School in Mechanicsburg. She was a lifelong member of the Brethren in Christ faith, where she served as a Sunday and Bible school teacher, as a part of the missionary prayer circle, and with the Pioneer Girls. Edith was an excellent cook who made the best iced tea in the world. She never hesitated to offer a helping hand especially when it came to assisting her husband on the farm. Edith continued her volunteer work while she lived at Messiah Village by helping fill water pitchers for the other residents. The most important thing to Edith was her family. She treasured the time that was spent with each of them and they will cherish all the memories that were made; Edith will be missed dearly.
All are welcome to join Edith’s family at her viewing on Sunday, November 5, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday, November 6, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village, 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Steven Lehman and Pastor Debbie Bentch officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Honored to be pallbearers are: Lynn Nester, Wendell Nester, Andrew Steckbeck, Justin Lehman, Derek Lehman, Mashawn Hepner, Emily Roush, and Janell Ressler. Edith’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship immediately following the burial at the Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church, 1050 South York Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
