Horace Ward “Doc” Lusk

Horace Ward “Doc” Lusk, age 89, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.  Doc was born on Friday, August 17, 1928 in Duncannon, PA to the late John Howard Lusk and Matilda (Trout) Lusk.  In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his son, Robert W. Lusk, and four of his siblings: Howard Lusk, Mary Jane Dissinger, Margaret Lusk, and Robert E. Lusk.

Doc’s survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Frances “Fran” Jean (Heberlig) Lusk; his five children: Michael J. Lusk and his wife, Debra; Jerry W. Lusk and his wife, Linda; Steven E. Lusk and his wife, Betti; Debra L. Kline and her husband, Randy; Lori L. Riggs and her husband, Richard; his sister, Doris Kocher (99); 14 grandchildren; his 25 great grandchildren; his great great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doc was a tireless worker in support of his family. He completed his professional life with the Quaker Oats Company, retiring with over 30 years of service.  A veteran of the U.S. Army, Doc was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1956.  He served in the Korean War with the 7th Regiment, 3rd Division, Heavy Tank Division.  In his private life, Doc took great joy in all things outdoors and the wonder of nature.  His quest for knowledge and understanding was with him until his final days.  Spending as much time with family as possible was a high priority in his life.  The example he set in the unassuming, selfless devotion to his aging sisters, especially Margaret who was blind, provided a role model for the entire family.  Doc was an extremely skilled amateur woodworker, who accepted nothing less than perfection on the projects that left his home workshop, many of which are now heirlooms for the family to cherish.

All are welcome to join Doc’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Saturday, January 13, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend W.
