Melissa Eileen (Adams) Adams - Budde, age 40, of West Grove, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away while surrounded by her loving family and friends on Tuesday, July 30, 2019. Melissa was born on Monday, August 21, 1978 in Harrisburg.
Melissa’s survivors include her husband of 17 years, Scot Budde; her two sons: Klete Holden Budde and Brody Owen Budde; her parents: Forrest Eugene Adams and Linda (Bowman) Adams of Mechanicsburg; her sister, Melinda Jane Adams and her husband, John Andrew Scherpercel, Harrisonburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Melissa graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1997, from the University of Maryland as part of the class of 2001 with her B.S. in Elementary Education, from Johns Hopkins University in 2007 with her M.Ed., and from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2014 with her Ph.D. in Literacy. She was a professor of literacy at West Chester University in West Chester.
Melissa, a lifelong student, had a burning desire to learn and for personal growth. She enjoyed traveling with her family to visit museums, Williamsburg, VA, and Longwood Gardens, to name a few. She cherished the time that she spent with her family, especially playing with her boys. Being at the beach and playing beach olympics and other games, were times that Melisssa felt brought her family closer together. Melissa’s interest in reading, painting, photography and yoga all helped her grow as a person. Her family and friends admired the strength, grace and beauty that she displayed through her life and during her illness, which she never allowed to define her. Those who were blessed enough to have known Melissa will miss her strong positive spirit and the enthusiasm that emanated from her during every moment of her life.
All are welcome to join Melissa’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, August 3, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church, 444 Silver Spring Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; with Reverend Donald B. Wahlig officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Silver Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Melissa’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the church following the interment. Cremation was private.
