Michael “Mike Rand Bunker

Michael “Mike” Rand Bunker, age 46, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Fairfax, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 17, 2018.  Mike was born on Monday, March 6, 1972 in Champaign, IL.

Mike’s survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Lela Ann (Meldrum) Bunker; his three beloved daughters: Katelyn Bunker, Alissa Bunker, and Christina Bunker; his parents, Arvin Ross Bunker and Mary Catherine (Wagner) Bunker of Missouri; his six siblings and their spouses: Deborah and Rick Morse, Julie and Charles Mendes, Christopher and Valerie Bunker, Steven and Meredith Bunker, Mark and Jaime Bunker, Nicole and Chester Grover; his parents-in-law, Blair and Peggy Meldrum; his siblings-in-law and their spouses: Michael and Valerie Meldrum, Janene and David Caylor, Elaine and Brett Herbst; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike graduated from Virginia Tech in 1996 with a degree in Finance and a minor in Spanish.  He served in the finance departments and as treasurer of several companies during his career and since 2008 he served as treasurer of Riviana Foods, Inc. based in Harrisburg.  Mike was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was serving as Bishop of the Camp Hill Ward, a position he began on March 22, 2015.  Prior to that, Mike served in Osorno, Chile as a full time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from May of 1991 until May of 1993.  Mike began excelling and leading early in life which became evident when he earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the young age of 13.  From his youth and throughout his life, Mike was a patriotic man.

Mike enjoyed many simple pleasures in life like: traveling, sports, history, Star Wars, James Bond movies, eating out, and of course, Coke over Pepsi.  He was a man with a dry sense of humor.  One might even say that he liked to be snarky.  Disney World was a special love of Mike’s, as was Hilton Head Island.  Spending time with his family at these special places was some of the best time of his life.  He was a loving husband, father, son and brother who loved his family and his church deeply.  His life was all too short.  He will be forever loved and remembered.

All are welcome to join Mike’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Saturday, June 23, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and at his service beginning at 2:00 p.m. all at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 216 Skyline Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, with Elder Jacob Gildea officiating.  Burial will be private in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Christopher Bunker, Steven Bunker, Mark Bunker, Rick Morse, Charles Mendes, Chester Grover, Michael Meldrum, David Caylor, and Brett Herbst.
