Beautiful Smile -

Peggy Joan (Gill) Hofer, age 86, of Mechanicsburg, passed away with her husband by her side on Monday, June 4, 2018.  Peggy was born on Tuesday, April 5, 1932 in Cumberland County to the late William Zook Gill and Carrie Ardella (Laughman) Gill.  In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her son, James “Jimmy” Hofer; and her four brothers: William, Jimmy, Fred, Albert; and her seven sisters: Sarah, Florence, Leah, Gerry, Janet, Neadie, and Ellen Mae.

Peggy’s survivors include her husband of 58 years, Burton Hofer; her daughter, Mary Farris of Mechanicsburg; her two grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; her six great great-grandchildren; her brother, John Gill; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Hofer; and several nieces and nephews.

Peggy graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1950.  She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill and the Mechanicsburg Museum Association.  She worked for Bell Telephone Company for over 13 years and with her husband at Kathie’s Christmas and Collectibles in Camp Hill for more than 15 years.  Peggy was a very lucky person who loved to visit the casino and put her good fortune to the test.  She was a very social person and would get together with her female classmates each third Monday of every month.  Peggy loved lighthouses and all things lighthouse.  She was mesmerized by the comings and goings of the birds and she enjoyed camping.  She had a beautiful smile that will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

All are welcome to join Peggy’s family at her visitation on Friday, June 15, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011; with Reverend John H. Brock officiating.  Peggy’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church immediately following the service.  Cremation and interment in the church columbarium will be private.
