A Good Old Farm Girl -
Violet “Susie” S. (Hollinger) Vogelsong, age 91, of Carlisle, went to Heaven to be with her husband peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2017. Susie was born on Tuesday, March 23, 1926 in Siddonsburg to the late Russell Hollinger and Josephine (Stambaugh) Hollinger. Susie was the widow of William “Paul” Paul Vogelsong, whom she married in 1948, and who died on January 5, 2003. In addition to her parents and husband, Susie is preceded in death by her four brothers, Bruce Hollinger, Chester “Chet” Hollinger, Raymond Hollinger, William “Bill” Hollinger; and her two sisters: Adline Hollinger, Hazel Gelnett.
Susie’s survivors include her sister, Frances “Fanny” Kennedy of Mechanicsburg; her brother, Kenneth Hollinger of Newville; and several nieces and nephews.
Susie was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown. She was an excellent cook who will be remembered for her ability to make wonderful pies. Susie enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was a good old farm girl who helped her husband with the farming. Susie liked to travel and make trips with her friends. She liked animals and will be remembered for her caring spirit.
All are welcome to join Susie’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Laura E. Minnella officiating. Burial will follow in Longsdorf Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Honored to be pallbearers are Thomas Moyer and Dennis Hollinger.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in celebration of Susie’s life can be made to any animal shelter of the donor’s choosing.
