Adelheid (Jansen) Houck

November 13, 1936 — October 23, 2025

Adelheid (Jansen) Houck, a beloved matriarch and pillar of her family, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Born in 1936, in Cologne, Germany, Adelheid carried her rich heritage and strong family values throughout her life.

Adelheid was a teller and customer service representative for M&T Bank for many years, where she excelled in customer service and loans, demonstrating her commitment to helping others every day. She was a longtime member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, then later St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, where her strong Catholic faith guided her life and nurtured her spirit. Adelheid embraced life with grace, and was extremely proud of being an American and the opportunities it provided her.

The essence of Adelheid's character radiated not only through her profession but also in her passions. She loved family, often stating that her proudest accomplishments were the moments spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished the time spent traveling with her husband Dale, creating cherished memories as they explored her home country. On any given weekend you could find Ada at a Bavarian festival or at her favorite club, the Lancaster Leiderkranz, joyfully polka dancing the night away. Ada also had a passion for finding the best bargains and was an avid thrift shopper.

Adelheid is survived by a loving family that includes her sons, Dale E. Houck and Edward H. Houck, and her daughter, Christa Eisenhuth. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Nathan (Carly) Houck, Chelsea (Matt) Wagner, Teah Bennet, and Logan (Jenna) Houck, as well as her great-grandchildren, Raelynn Wagner, Ansley Wagner, Everly Wagner, Blake Bennet, and Lucy Houck. She is also survived by her sister, Helga Vucenic.

Adelheid was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Dale Houck, her brother, Joseph Jansen, her sister, Gertrud Smith, and her parents, Franz and Anna Jansen. Their absence leaves a space that will forever echo with her vibrant laughter and warm spirit.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Adelheid’s life on November 1, 2025, with a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, both taking place at Buhrig Funeral and Cremation, LTD. in Mechanicsburg.
