Anna May Smith (Sullivan), 90, a resident of Mechanicsburg, PA for 56 years, died peacefully on March 6, 2026 surrounded by her family. Anna May was born in 1935 to the late John and Johanna (Shea) Sullivan in New York City, New York. Anna May was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles E. Smith.

Anna May is survived by her five children, Charles E. Smith (Chip) and his wife Lisa of Mechanicsburg PA, Rosemary Harrington and her husband William of Gibsonia PA, Michael J. Smith and his wife, Nicole of Duncansville PA, Daniel R. Smith and his wife, Michelle of White Plains NY, and Anne Marie Weller and her husband Michael of Easton MD. In addition she is survived by grandchildren Michael Harrington, Robert Harrington and his wife Mandy, David Harrington, Alyxandria Brown and her husband Cade, Kaden Henderson, Colleen Smith, Caroline Smith, Tom Weller, Tess Weller, and great grandchildren Silas, Campbell, and Jack. She is also survived by her brothers John Sullivan (Sally), Eugene Sullivan (Eileen), and sisters Margaret Sullivan, Kathleen Sullivan, and Joan Sullivan all of New York as well as her nieces and nephews.

Anna May graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City in 1952. She was a 1955 graduate of St. Mary’s Nursing School in Hoboken, New Jersey. In 1962 Anna May received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Teachers College Columbia University in New York. She worked as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hoboken, NJ, St. Luke’s hospital in New York City, NY, Bayonne Hospital in Bayonne, NJ, and Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA. Anna May was a long time and active member of St. Joseph Church in Mechanicsburg where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Leisure Club. Anna May will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

All are welcome to join Anna’s family at her viewing on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m. all at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Matthew G. Smith officiating. Burial will follow the Mass in St. John's Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Anna’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to the funeral home) immediately following the burial.
