Audrey (Roof) Basehore

Jun 15, 1938 — Jul 22, 2026

Camp Hill, PA

Audrey (Roof) Basehore, age 88, of Camp Hill, PA, and formerly of Lewisberry and Fairview Township, passed away at home and surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Audrey was born on June 15, 1938, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles Lester Roof and Catherine Ella (Robison) Roof. Her family moved to a farm in Lewisberry when she was about 7 years old, where she got her early education attending a one-room schoolhouse. Audrey then graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1956 and married her life-long devoted husband, Don, in 1958. She worked at the New Cumberland Army Depot and later assisted Don with his insurance business. Don and Audrey had three children, Lorrie, Keith, and Kirk, and lived in their beloved home in Camp Hill, PA, from 1967 until the time of her passing. Don and Audrey loved to travel and enjoyed visiting various places in North and South America and Europe over the years - getting to meet different people, try different foods, and learn about different cultures. She especially loved getting to visit Israel a few years ago. At home, Audrey hosted her children and grandchildren every Sunday for many years for a home-cooked meal. Audrey loved her family and delighted in spending time with them.

Audrey was also extremely active in her church, Eberly’s Mill Church of God, where she served as a deaconess, taught children’s school for many years, and made many dear friends over their 60 years attending. Audrey and Don annually volunteered for Camp HOPE at Doubling Gap in Newville, a camp that extends Christ’s love to adults with intellectual disabilities. She was awarded a Life Servant Award from Eberly’s Mill earlier this year, which honors those who’ve gone above and beyond to dedicate their lives to serving the church and making a difference. Additionally, Audrey was awarded a Towel and Basin Award through the Churches of God denomination this year, which recognizes those who’ve shown exceptional servant leadership and humility. Audrey was a friend to all - she greeted everyone warmly, made instant connections with strangers, and had a quick wit and humor about life. Audrey was very social and had many dear friends over the years; she was active in the Highland Women’s Club as well as various card clubs and Bible studies. Among her family, Audrey was the family matriarch and a force to be reckoned with. She was strong-willed, incredibly neat and organized, hard-working, and extremely intelligent. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and learning new things, particularly about history.

Audrey was dearly loved, and her family and friends will miss her immensely - though we are heartened that she’s home with the Lord after receiving an ALS diagnosis earlier this year and is now reunited with those who’ve passed before her. She loved her savior, Jesus, and took comfort in His words: “Peace I leave with you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

In addition to her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her two brothers: Charles "Bob" R. Roof and Erdman N. Roof.

Audrey’s survivors include her beloved husband of 68 years, Donald "Don" Edward Basehore; her three children: Lorrie A. Blaisdell and husband, Keith, of Mechanicsburg; Keith E. Bashore and wife, Charlene, of Lewisberry; Kirk D. Basehore and wife, Donna, of Mechanicsburg; her grandchildren: Sarah Hagan and husband, Dan; Victoria Lichtenstein and husband, Gavin; Elizabeth Davis and husband, Christopher; Natalie DeKryger and husband, Will; Aaron Bashore and wife, Jordan; Noah Basehore; Leah Basehore; Isabelle Basehore; three great-grandchildren: Ella, Finnegan, and George; her sister: Sharon Cook of Asheville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

All are welcome to join Audrey’s family at a Gathering of Family and Friends visitation on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Eberly's Mill Church of God, 115 Creek Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
