Audrey Jeane Brown

Audrey Jeane Brown, age 92, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Drexel Hills, died on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Audrey was born on Monday, March 5, 1934, in Harrisburg to the late Harry Brown and Alma (Alexander) Brown. In addition to her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her brother, J. Howard Brown, her sister, Carol Christmas, and her best friend, Pat Matthews.

Audreys’s survivors include her four great nieces and nephews: Susan Lutz and her husband Jason of Mechanicsburg, Chris Brown and his wife Nichole of New Cumberland, Greg Holes of Harrisburg, and Audrey Schaab and her husband John of Beaverton, OR.

Audrey graduated from John Harris High School as part of the class of 1952 and from Penn State University in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She retired from Upper Darby School District in 1987 after 31 years of service working as a teacher. Audrey was a member of Shiremanstown United Methodist Church, and a former member of Drexel Hill United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women and sang in the choir. Audrey was a longtime member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization. She loved to travel. She and her best friend, Pat, traveled to every state, Nova Scotia, England, and Scotland together. Audrey also liked going to the beach, most especially Ocean City, NJ. She and Pat frequently took her great nieces along on trips to the beach, Maine, and to cottages in the Poconos, among other places. Audrey loved hosting Thanksgiving in the Poconos, which became a treasured family tradition. Always the hostess, she was incredibly hospitable and entertained regularly with conversation over food and drinks. Audrey was an avid reader, and enjoyed sitting down with novels or inspirational books. She could commonly be found with her faithful feline companion, Tyler, or wearing any number of cat-themed accessories. Audrey was a sports fan. Her favorite teams were the Philadelphia Phillies (for whom she attended spring training), the Philadelphia Eagles, and Penn State Football. Audrey will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Audrey’s family will be remembering her life privately. Interment in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill will be at the family’s convenience.
