Audrey Ann Sweeney, also known as Wendy to her closest friends and family when she was growing up, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and performer, left this world on April 24, 2026, She was a woman of fierce love and quiet strength who built a life of warmth and joy from hard beginnings, and who gave everything she had to her family and her constant companions, her dogs, Buster and Buddy.
Born January 9, 1938, she raised four children — three sons and a daughter — with a tenderness and determination that shaped every life she touched. She was married to Donald Sweeney until he passed; twenty-five years later she found new happiness with another companion who brought light to her life until his recent passing. Those relationships, and the love she poured into them, were central to who she was. She was always ready to lend an ear, or to offer help to anyone, deserving or not. Her heart was big enough to allow everyone into her embrace.
Audrey delighted in simple, joyful things: a pool game with friends, playing cards at the center or on a summer night with family, playing Yahtzee with anyone that would play with her, singing and dancing whenever music played, and the steady comfort of her guitar. Her voice and presence brightened community stages where she performed plays and skits at various senior centers in Pennsylvania, all the while belonging to the chorus of her church and as a member of the band at the Mechanicsburg Senior Center. She always brought laughter and companionship to audiences who treasured her. Those who knew her will always remember a woman who could make a room sing, who moved with a dancer’s ease, who always had something funny to say to liven up a room, and who played her guitar with a musician’s heart.
Audrey is survived by her four children; their wives or significant others; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom carried a piece of her kindness forward. Her family remembers her not for the hardships she endured but for the way she turned them into lessons of generosity, patience, and fierce maternal love. She had a hard life, yet she stitched it together into something beautiful and steady — the kind of love only a mother could give.
Her legacy is one of laughter at kitchen tables, late-night card games, songs hummed around the house, and the steady, unshakable presence of a woman who loved without condition. She taught her family how to find joy in the small things and how to keep going when life demanded more than they thought they could give.
Audrey is survived by four children-three sons (Randi, Kelly, and Brian), and one daughter (Jodi); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who will miss her dearly.
Preceded in death by her late husband, Donald Sweeney, and her later companion, Harry Summers who brought her happiness for many years.
