Barbara (Schmidt) Arcati, age 85, of Mechanicsburg, died on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Barbara was born on Tuesday, April 30, 1940, in Clintonville, WI to the late Eugene “Pete” Anthony Schmidt and Evelyn H. (Heuer) Schmidt. Barbara was the widow of Thomas Salvatore Arcati, whom she married on September 1, 1962, and who died on December 23 1988. In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara is preceded in death by her two brothers: Peter Schmidt and William “Bill” Schmidt.
Barbara’s survivors include her two sons: Peter Arcati and his wife Dawn of Dillsburg, PA, Thomas Arcati and his companion Ann Marie Loguercio of St. Paris, OH; her six grandchildren: Thomas Arcati Jr, Phillip Arcati and his wife Brandi, James Arcati, Deanna Arcati, Jessica Arcati, Anthony Arcati; her great grandchild: Scarlett Cupps; her former daughter in law: Janice Rheinheimer of Smyrna, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara graduated from Benicia high school (California) as part of the class of 1958 and from St. Catherine’s Nursing School in 1962. She retired from Suffolk County Department of Health-Tri Community Health Center in Amityville, NY after many years of service working as a registered nurse and manager. Barbara attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved to travel, camping as she went with her beloved husband Thomas. They RV’d most of their life, and travelling cross-country to Florida was an especially treasured memory. Barbara loved her grandchildren and always made sure to find time to dote on them. She will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
All are welcome to join Barbara’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 400 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Father John Bateman celebrating. Barbara’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, immediately following the service. Burial will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in The Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.
