Betty Lou (Davis) Ort, 79, of Mechanicsburg died at Homeland Center on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. She was born in Walker Township in Juniata County on Monday, August 22, 1932 daughter of the late Simon Roscoe and Gertrude Bertha (Leonard) Davis. Betty was the widow of Robert Harry Ort who she married on September 18, 1951 and who died on August 22, 1985.

Betty graduated from Juniata Joint High School and she attended Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). She was a life-long member of Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren. Betty retired in 1987 from the Navy Fleet Material Support Office (FMSO) as the head of the Procurement Coordination Branch with 35 years of faithful service. She also retired from the Commonwealth of PA Department of Revenue after 10 years of service. Betty also worked as a drapery consultant and seamstress for Cumberland Window Fashions, Bon-Ton, Montgomery Wards, Home Depot and JCPenney.

Betty was a member of Mechanicsburg Women’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star – Trio Chapter #544, Order of Amaranth – Willard Waterman Court. She had an incredibly creative mind dreaming up decorating solutions to almost any challenge. Every holiday meal was set to a new theme as Betty set an immaculate table with everything well considered. She worked an unbelievable amount while always making time for the loves of her life, her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Betty’s survivors include her loving children: Rhonda Lou Seigle of Carlisle, Randall Robert Ort and his wife Connie of Mechanicsburg, Rodney Allen Ort and his wife Lillian of Lewisberry; her sister: Margaret Novosel of Lock Haven; three grandsons: Michael, John, Eric; one granddaughter: Jennifer; two step-grandsons: Matthew, Joseph; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Betty in death are two brothers: William Davis, John Davis; and one sister: Susan Marquart.

All are welcome to join Betty’s family at her viewing on Friday, February 24, 2012, from 12:30 until time of service at 1:30 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com with Pastor Dell Keeney officiating. A Committal Service will be held at the funeral home immediately following the Funeral Service. Honored to be pallbearers are: Michael Ort, John Seigle, Eric Ort, Matthew Yeatts, Joseph Yeatts and Ron Sprenkle. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill.

Betty’s family invites everyone to join them for a Time of Food and Fellowship at her church, Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren, 301 Gale Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, following the Committal Service. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church.
