Betty Jane Sponsler

Betty Jane Sponsler, a cherished soul, gracefully departed this world, surrounded by those who loved her, on February 6, 2026, at the age of 95. She spent her last few weeks being dutifully cared for in a family member's home in Newport, Pennsylvania. Born in Harrisburg on January 25, 1931, Betty lived her life as a steadfast matriarch, embodying the quintessential virtues of love, strength, and unwavering devotion.

As a devoted homemaker, she nurtured not only her home but also the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. Her life was rich with passions, including horseback riding, where she found adventure and joy in every ride; bowling, where her competitive spirit shone through in the league; and knitting, a craft through which she created warmth and comfort for her family and friends. Betty was also a life member and a beloved, dependable member of the kitchen staff at the New Kingstown Fire House, where she proudly contributed her time and effort to serve her community. A beloved presence at Trinity Global Methodist Church in New Kingstown, she fostered connections through her faith, enriching her spiritual life and those of others around her.

Betty's legacy endures through her immediate family: her beloved daughter, Sue (Timothy) Folk, who carries forward her values and teachings; her adoring grandchildren, Dennis (Jamie) Herrold and Brad Herrold, who continue to cherish the stories and traditions she instilled; two loving step grandchildren: Amber and Tammi Folk; and her precious great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Sponsler, who stood by her side through both joy and adversity, and her parents, John and Anna Zeigler, who laid the foundation for her compassionate nature.

A series of solemn yet heartfelt services will be held in her honor on February 16, 2026, at Buhrig Funeral and Cremation, LTD. in Mechanicsburg, PA. The day will commence with a viewing at 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will then ensue at Buhrig's Gathering Place at 1:45 PM, providing all who loved her the opportunity to gather and share memories, laughter, and love—a fitting tribute to a remarkable woman whose spirit will forever illuminate the lives she touched.

Betty Jane Sponser will be remembered not just for the life she led but for the love she gave, a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived.
