Beverly Jeanne (Herb) Long, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, PA and formally of Scott, Arkansas, died on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Beverly was born on Thursday, September 14, 1944, in Harrisburg, PA to the late Bruce Herb and Betty (Harris) Herb.
Beverly’s survivors include her loving husband of 35 years, Leonard “Len” C. Long III; her son: Christopher “Chris” Hanshaw and his wife Vanessa of Mechanicsburg, PA; her two bonus children: Pamela “Pam” Vance and her husband Edward of Benton, AR, “Lenny” Long and his wife Patty of Bryant, AR; her seven grandchildren: Tristan Hanshaw of Mechanicsburg, PA, Scott Long of Ogden, UT, Elizabeth Pickron of Bryant, AR, Austin Maxey of Columbus, OH, Ryan Cole of Bryant, AR, Jessica Reagan of Conway, AR, Zachary “Zach” Vance of Benton, AR; her brother: Bob Herb and his wife Nancy of Orlando, FL; and her two nephews: Keith Herb of Orlando, FL, and Jeff Herb of Orlando, FL.
Beverly graduated from Steel-High as part of the class of 1962 and attended Shippensburg University before graduating from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She enjoyed collecting things and would frequently visit flea markets shopping for her next treasure. Beverly appreciated the music of the 50’s, but her all-time favorite was Elvis. She had a soft spot for animals, but especially for her canine companions. Beverly was an avid reader, who would regularly read a novel a week. She excelled at maintaining friendships and loved getting together with her lifelong friends to talk and eat at new restaurants. Beverly even kept in contact with a grade school pen pal from England for over 50 years! Her happy place was at the beach, particularly Cape May, NJ. Beverly adored travel and dreamed of sailing around the world in the 56-foot sailboat that she and Len were building. A beloved memory was taking a cruise to Bermuda where four generations were present. Beverly will be dearly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
All are welcome to join Beverly’s family at her celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 2:30 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. Cremation was private.
