A Fun-Loving & Hospitable Man -

Billy Boyd Golden, age 87, of New Cumberland, and formerly of Elkin, NC, passed peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.  Billy was born on Thursday, June 23, 1932 in Surry County, NC to the late Shade Golden and Bertha (Welborn) Golden.  In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his stepson, Joseph D. Wissler, III; his step grandson, Joseph D. Wissler, IV; and his five siblings: Harvey Golden, Swanee Pittman, Robey Golden, Leo Golden, and Joseph Golden.

Billy’s survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Alice Kay (Slothower) Golden; his three stepchildren: Kimberly “Kim” Apgar of Dauphin, Michelle “Mickey” Speaker of Camp Hill, Jeffrey “Duke” S. Wissler, Sr. and his wife, Nancy, of Dillsburg; his two daughters: Michelle Smith of Virginia and Patricia “Patsy” Shaw; his 17 grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Garris of Elkin, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Billy proudly served in the United States Army during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the Army after 22 years of service as a Warrant Officer. Billy continued his career in civil service and retired as the Commissary Officer at the New Cumberland Army Depot. Having been such a fun-loving and hospitable man, Billy never turned down the opportunity to entertain family and friends. Whenever the family was around, especially the grandchildren, Billy felt the happiest. He truly loved his family and cherished the time they spent together making special memories. He was a talented fiddle player who loved listening to and playing bluegrass music. Billy attended Grace United Methodist Church in Lemoyne. He was a life member of the VFW. Billy belonged to the Fox-Eichelberger VFW Post 7415 and the American Legion Post 143, both in New Cumberland, where he enjoyed eating and sharing stories with his friends.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Jason Schwartzman officiating.  Burial will follow in Tri-County Memorial Gardens in Lewisberry, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Jeffrey Wissler, Jr., Fred Speaker, Daniel Wissler, Gregory Wissler, Samuel Speaker, and Elvin Diller.
