Bradley "Brad" Eugene Shughart

Bradley “Brad” Eugene Shughart, age 57, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Brad was born on May 17, 1969, in Carlisle, PA to Kenneth Shughart of Carlisle, PA, and Nancy (Knaub) Shughart of Dillsburg, PA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willis R. and Gladys M. (Hair) Shughart and Henry L. and Evelyn I. (Kemler) Knaub; his uncle, Paul Speck; and his aunts, Patricia Speck and Diane Soprano.

Brad is survived by his loving wife, Brigitte (Costello) Shughart; his five children, Ashley (Dominick) Fluss of Newville, PA, Abigail (Shawn) Sennett of Newville, PA, Steven Burkholder of Mechanicsburg, PA, Benjamin Burkholder of Carlisle, PA, and Sean Burkholder of Churchtown, PA; and his six grandchildren, Shawn, Willow, Ethan, Coby, Raelynn, and Lane. He is also survived by his mother in law, Carmen (Bologna) Winters, who adored him.

He is also survived by his three siblings, Teresa (Jeffrey) Sampson of Dillsburg, PA, Andrew (Kristin) Shughart of Rochester, NY, and Rebecca (Jason) Detra of Thompsontown, PA; and his nieces and nephews, Justin, Jarrett, Jeremy, Michaleigh, Anastin, Gunner, and Truitt; and Douglas, Jordan, Brittany, Kaitlyn, and Garrett.

Brad is also survived by many first and second cousins including Mark (Jessica Geiger) Shughart and Amanda (Jeremy) Moyer, who were more like siblings to him.

He is lovingly remembered by his aunts and uncles, Gary “Jigs” (Elaine) Shughart, Ronald “Babe” (Ruth) Shughart, Donald (Barbara) Shughart, Daniel Soprano and Barbara (James) Conley. Brad shared a lifelong closeness with his Shughart aunts and uncles, who were a treasured part of his family, his upbringing, and so many of the memories that shaped his life.

Brad graduated from Cumberland Valley High School and Cumberland Perry Vo-Tech Welding as part of the Class of 1988.

Growing up, Brad was deeply involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA), and his love of agriculture stayed with him throughout his life. He enjoyed working with animals, milking, and assisting with planting at nearby farms. He also had a lifelong passion for Farmall tractors.

Working on both family and local farms during his youth reinforced his love of farming. It was during this time that Brad learned to repair and service all different types of farm equipment. He started his career at Carlisle Farm Service and worked on agriculture tractors and machinery and then moved to R & W Equipment. He then moved to the construction side and worked the rest of his career at Groff Tractor in Mechanicsburg, PA working on Case equipment.

When Brad became a father, he was totally devoted to his daughters and his world revolved around them. He made sure that they knew how much they were loved. He was the ultimate “Girl Dad.”

The day that Brad and Brigitte met, they became completely inseparable. The love they had for each other was true and pure. Their families blended together with ease, and they created an everlasting example of what true love means.

Brad was a devoted and proud Pap to all of his grandchildren. He never missed a school function and came to all sporting events, whether a practice or a game. The grandkids became the center of his life and brought him happiness that could never be measured.

Brad will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

All are welcome to join Brad’s family for his visitation on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Celebrant George Spangler will officiate.

Brad’s family invites everyone to join them for a “Celebration of Life” on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the Hertzler-Shughart-Moyer Farm, 439 S. Locust Point Road, Mechanicsburg, PA.
