“Friendly and Humorous”

Carey Franklin Smyers, 72, of Mechanicsburg, died Friday, May 6, 2011 in his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on March 3, 1939 in Huntingdon, PA. He was the second of five sons born to the late Kenneth F. and Freda L. (Booher) Smyers. He married Faye Louise (Fouse) Smyers on May 12, just shy of 49 years ago.

Carey graduated from Huntingdon High School.  He was an Army Veteran, and worked at the Navy base as a computer programmer until he retired in 1994.  He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church; He was a member of the Lower Allen Township VFW; The Mechanicsburg Club; photographer for the Blue Moon Cruisers, and enjoyed being a part of a bowling league, in his younger years, taking his daughters to the bowling alley to watch him when he could.  He also enjoyed taking several cruises and a multitude of bus trips together with his wife.

Carey is survived by his loving wife: Faye, three daughters: Joni Logan, Cumbola, Wendy Nagle, Mechanicsburg, and Cindy Smyers, Harrisburg; four grandsons: Joseph Nagle, Steven Logan and Dakota and Dylan Zufall, one great-granddaughter: Breanna Nagle; four brothers: Frederick B., Richard D., both of Huntingdon, Kenneth L., Alexandria, and Gale S., York.

All are welcome to join Carey’s family at his viewing on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com ; and Tuesday at 10:00 until the time of service at 11:00, officiated by Rev. Leslie Towsey.  His service will end with a flag ceremony by the Lower Allen Township V.F.W. Post#7530. Burial will take place later and at the convenience of the family.
