Carol Ann (Welkes) Lauver, age 72, of Camp Hill, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.  Carol was born on Friday, March 24, 1950, in Manhattan to the late Louis Welkes and Lenore (Glaser) Welkes.

Carol’s survivors include her husband of nearly 42 years, Fred John Lauver; her daughter, Amy Katelyn Lauver of Camp Hill; and her beloved feline companion, CJ.

Carol graduated from Camp Hill High School as part of the class of 1968 and from Pennsylvania State University - Middletown in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree before receiving her Teacher Certification from Wilson College in Chambersburg.  She was a retired elementary and kindergarten teacher.  Carol’s most recent job before her retirement in 2020 was at Tender Years Child Development Center in Camp Hill as a kindergarten teacher.  She had an artistic side and was known by many as an accomplished artist, craftsperson, and writer.  Carol had a passion for art and was a talented painter in several mediums such as watercolors, encaustic, collages, and felt art.  She also worked with fiber arts like wools to create artwork consisting of portraits depicting animals and birds.  Carol enjoyed writing short stories and has had her work published.  Her most recent short stories published in anthologies include, “The Surprise Party" in A Community of Writers and “Missing” in Bitter Sweet .  Every season, Carol looked forward to decorating, especially for Christmas.  Carol liked to travel and went on several cruises and took a trip to Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales with her husband, Fred.  She was deeply curious about many subjects and always kept informed about events in the world.  She held strong empathy for people of all races, religions, and national origin and closely followed the news.  Carol was a very kind and caring person towards animals.  She was also generous towards many charities that seek to ease the suffering or misfortune of others.  Carol was devoted to her family, showing her love for her husband and daughter in many ways each and every day.  She will be most remembered for her compassion and her devoted love for her family and many friends.

All are welcome to join Carol’s family at her celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance and sharing at 1:00 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory); and her virtual greeting and time of remembrance and sharing via video chat or telephone beginning at 12:45 p.m.  Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots.  Cremation was private.
