Cindy Lou (Hoover) Kern, age 67 of Mechanicsburg, died on Sunday, May 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Cindy was born on Saturday, March 14, 1959, in Harrisburg to the late James H. Hoover and Nancy A. (Long) Hoover.
Cindy is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, David E. Kern; her two sons, Robert E. Kern of Mechanicsburg and Thomas W. Johnson of Harrisburg; her treasured grandchildren, Jayden Kern, Nevaeh Johnson, and Thomas "TJ" Johnson, Jr.; as well as her sister, Linda Baldwin, and brother-in-law, Robert, of Harrisburg.
A proud graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, class of 1977, Cindy furthered her education at the Antonelli Institute of Art, earning an associate's degree in Interior Design. Yet, it was her career as a para-professional within the Camp Hill School District that truly captured her heart. There, she dedicated herself to working with children with special needs—an endeavor she embraced with great pride and joy. Her compassionate spirit and steadfast commitment enriched the lives she touched and left an indelible mark on the community she served. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence. An active and cherished member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Cindy lent her voice and musical talents to the church choir and the bell choir, enriching the spiritual lives of many with her presence and dedication. Cindy's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family, faith, and the nurturing of children with special needs.
Alongside her husband, David, Cindy expanded her nurturing embrace beyond the classroom and home through their roles as foster parents for Cumberland County. Their greatest triumph was the adoption of two of their many foster children, whom they provided with a loving home and the skills necessary to navigate life with confidence. This testament to Cindy’s devotion and kindness speaks volumes about her character and the profound impact she leaves behind.
Cindy also loved all things "musical". She would often burst into song while doing household chores. Cindy sang with the Harrisburg Opera Society; she was a soloist with the Oratorio Society and was honored to make her "international" singing debut for the wedding of a dear friend that took place in France.
All are welcome to join Cindy's family at her viewing on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service beginning at 11:00 a.m. all at Mt.
