Daniel Sumner Sim

Daniel “Dan” Sumner Sim, age 76, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at Carolyn's House surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Dan was born on Saturday, May 6, 1950, in Exeter, NH to the late Chester Robert Sim and Elizabeth (Wetherell) Sim.

After attending Harrisburg Area Community College, Dan led a passionate career in the food service industry, as an Executive Chef, Director of Development for Subway Corporation, and later with his wife Gail operating their own Subway franchises until retirement.

Dan was active in multiple community groups including Great Decisions, the Foreign Policy Association of Harrisburg, and other charitable and community organizations.  He was well respected by his friends and colleagues for his commitment to hard work, ethics, community, and the common good.  His lifelong love of Saab automobiles carried him to many car shows and enthusiast clubs.

Dan’s survivors include: his wife of nearly 56 years, Gail Lynn (Swinehart) Sim; his two sons: Mathew Sim and wife Jessica of Chincoteague Island, Virginia and Christopher Sim of York Haven, Pennsylvania; his two beloved grandchildren: Jesse and Johnna Sim; his six siblings: Judy Yannone, Kathy Handiboe, Mary Louise Sim, Robert Sim, David Sim, and Greg Sim; several nieces and nephews;

All are welcome to join Dan’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Remembrance at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Nancy Boyer officiating. Dan's family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Cremation was private.
