David "Dave" Charles Boyd

March 7, 1946 — December 30, 2023

Mechanicsburg

David “Dave” Charles Boyd (age 77) of Mechanicsburg, PA lost his battle with lung cancer and passed away on December 30th, 2023.  He was born on March 7, 1946, in Brooklyn and raised in Staten Island, NY by his adoptive parents, the late Ernest and Elsie Jensen.

Dave’s survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara “Barb” Ann (Westhafer) Boyd; his two daughters: Kelly Benedict and her husband, John, of Collegeville; Kimberly Boyd-Jones and her husband, Jeff, of Wheaton, IL; and his four grandchildren: Reagan, Nolan, Grant, and Ethan.

He was quite an athlete playing all kinds of sports growing up.  Soon after high school, he was drafted into the army.  He served for two years, stationed at the Carlisle Barracks, but thankfully never went to Vietnam.  After he was discharged, he got his first job working for IBM.  He was employed with the company for over 40 years working in various departments and retired in 2018.

He had a love for oldies music, Corvettes and his NY sports teams, especially the Giants.  He enjoyed the beach, collecting lighthouse figurines, Disney, going to amusement parks and riding roller coasters on family trips.  Dave could teach a master class on packing a car, budgeting, and wrapping gifts but was mostly known for being the ultimate “girl dad” before the term was popular, as this feeling of inclusion to our family extended to all of our friends as well.

Dave liked taking daily walks with his wife, working outdoors, and always looked forward to his visits with his children and grandchildren.  He was a hard worker and a dedicated father, grandfather, and husband.  We will all miss him greatly.
