Doris Taylor

May 15, 1930 — November 2, 2023

Doris “Lorraine” (Merritt) Taylor, age 93, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Annandale, VA, died on Thursday, November 2, 2023.  Lorraine was born on Thursday, May 15, 1930, in Melfort, Saskatchewan to the late Theron Mathew Merritt and Doris Agatha Hoppes.  Lorraine was the widow of Walter “Walt” Morris Taylor, whom she married on April 24, 1976, and who died on April 20, 1997.  In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine is preceded in death by her three sisters: Mary Helen Martin, Betty Schoneberger, and Judy Fuller.

Lorraine’s survivors include her two children: Gretchen Lorraine Peiffer and her husband, Timothy “Tim” Peiffer, of Dover, Bryan Mathew Taylor of Largo, FL; her three grandchildren: Kassidy Taylor, Zachary Peiffer, Kaelin Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to know her.  She was a world traveler who visited at least 35 countries.  Lorraine didn’t let age hold her back from having adventures: she went on a bike trip in Europe in her 80’s, went on an African safari, spent time at a dude ranch in Montana, climbed a schooner mast to a crow’s nest in the middle of the Atlantic, and rode a bike on the Great Wall of China.  She was very active and traveled in a motor home all over the U.S. and Canada.  Lorraine and Walt went to France to visit the town that her beloved husband helped to liberate during WWII. She was very involved in her local community.  Lorraine was a member of a widow’s group, Fox Fire, in Northern Virginia, started a walking group at Traditions of America, and won many trophies at bowling competitions.  Lorraine always made time for family, and was a great mother and grandmother.  She spent many hours playing with her grandchildren when they were little and cheering them on at their various events as they grew up.  (Babby) and (Grandma Lolo) was so proud of her grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.  Her family fondly remembers her love of: “Really Good Lasagna” and of banana splits from Brewster's.  She will be dearly missed.

All are welcome to join Lorraine’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend George Spangler officiating.  Lorraine’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Interment will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.
