A Very Talented Musician -

Dorothy “Dottie” Mae (Wert) Wilson, age 95, of Mechanicsburg passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2022.  Dottie was born on Tuesday, December 21, 1926, in Mechanicsburg to the late Raymond J. M. Wert and Carrie F. (Diehl) Wert.  Dottie was the widow of Richard “Dick” Lee Wilson, whom she married on May 23, 1959, and who died on November 19, 2001.  In addition to her parents and husband, Dottie is preceded in death by her three brothers, Jacob Wert, Weir Wert, Samuel Wert; and her sister Mildred Barrick.

Dottie’s survivors include her two children: Linda Kennedy and husband, Bill, of East Berlin and Ronald D. Bailey and wife, Bonnie, of Lebanon; her six grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren; and her great-great grandchildren.

Dottie graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1945.  She retired from Pennsylvania Depart of Transportation in Harrisburg and previously served as the assistant to Dr. John Pikulin at New Cumberland Chiropractic.   Dottie was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg, where she was very active in all functions of the church.  She particularly like to help to make the delicious Easter eggs at Easter time.  She was born into a very musical family and loved to play many instruments.  Dottie could play the accordion, piano, organ, and the Hawaiian guitar.  She was a member and president of the Women’s Traffic Club of Harrisburg, a member and vice president of the VFW Post 6704 Ladies Auxiliary in Mechanicsburg, Pinnacle Health Auxiliary and served as the majority inspector on the Board of Elections.  Dottie constantly doing yard work and gardening at her home.  She also loved to knit, crochet, dance and bake.  She adored the trips she took to the beach with her family.  Dottie will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

All are welcome to join Dottie’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Charles L. Persing officiating.  Dottie’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the Reception in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Skip Benner, Sean Kennedy, Cecil Knotts and Jake Strausbaugh.
