Dr. Richard Anthony Mauro, affectionately known as Rick, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Mechanicsburg. Rick was born on Friday, March 17, 1944, in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Anthony R. Mauro and Anne (Angelo) Mauro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved canine companion: Vino.

Rick's legacy will continue to live on through his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife, Lenora Faye (Kellman) Mauro; his four children: Rick Mauro, Jr. and wife Marlene, of Pittsburgh, Kevin Mauro and wife Melissa, of East Berlin, Jeffery Mauro and wife Kim, of Montpelier, VA, and Brian Mauro and wife, Marie, of Hellertown; his eight grandchildren: Grant Mauro, Greta Mauro, Dempsy Bodan, Sarah Mauro, Megan Lukanuski (Sam), Luc Mauro (Lydia), Noah Mauro, and Gage Mauro; his brother, David Mauro of Hilton Head, SC; and his cherished feline companion: Gabby.

Rick graduated from Wilkinsburg High School before furthering his education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He later obtained his master's and PhD degree from the University of Pittsburgh, underscoring his commitment to learning and professional development.

A dedicated educator, Rick had a profound impact on the lives of many students and colleagues throughout his esteemed career in education. He taught at several schools and retired from Dallastown Area School District, where he served many years as an elementary supervisor and principal. His passion for teaching was matched only by his commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for students to thrive.

Known for his friendly demeanor, Rick was well-liked by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth and approachability left a lasting impression on friends, family, and former students alike.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Rick cherished many hobbies and interests. He was an active member of the Susquehanna Winemakers Guild (SWiG) and took great pleasure in crafting delicious wine. Reading provided him with endless enjoyment. He was a devoted fan of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins, and loved spending time with his family. After retiring, Rick and his beloved wife, Lenora, embarked on numerous travels, embracing adventures through bus trips and cruises. He will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate to have known him. His kindness, dedication, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

All are welcome to join Rick’s family at his service on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Rick’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.
