Edith Jane (Klinger) Shoop, age 87, of Mechanicsburg, died on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Edith was born on Friday, September 24, 1937, in Lykens to the late Phillip William Klinger and Leona (Gaynor) Klinger. Edith was the widow of Robert “Bob” William Shoop, whom she married on June 29, 1963, and who died on February 4, 2006. In addition to her parents and husband, Edith is preceded in death by her six siblings: Ronald Klinger, Phillip Klinger, Jr., Larry Klinger, Eleanor Sternberger, Sue Hoover, Priscilla Wrubel; her son-in-law: Richard T. McGee; and her beloved feline companion: Little Bit.
Edith’s survivors include her daughter: Rebecca McGee of Mechanicsburg; her four siblings: George Klinger, Mary Hoffman, Anthony Klinger, Donna English; and several nieces and nephews.
Edith graduated from Wiconisco High School as part of the class of 1956. She attended church services at Free Grace Brethren in Christ Church, for many years. Edith’s hobbies included cooking, baking, and reading, as well as doing word searches and collecting angels, which numbered over 200. She was known for her bright smile and ability to make others laugh. Edith possessed a generous spirit and would go to great lengths to assist others. She would regularly check in on individuals if she hadn’t heard from them in a while. Edith had a deep affection for animals and would always take the time to pet a dog or cat.
All are welcome to join Edith’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with a service beginning at 11:00 a.m. all at Buhrig Funeral and Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Edwin Kessler officiating. Burial will follow the service in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
