Eleanor M. Way

Eleanor M. (Heller) Way, age 99, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Norristown, PA and Elverson, PA died on Thursday, October 16, 2025. Eleanor was born on Saturday, June 19, 1926, in Warriors Mark to the late Harry H. Heller and Bertha (Kinch) Heller. Eleanor was the widow of Joseph H. Way, whom she married on June 14, 1952, and who died on February 6, 2016. In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor is preceded in death by her sister: Helen L. Metz.

Eleanor’s survivors include her daughter: Carol L. Bullock and husband Robert, of Mechanicsburg; her three grandsons: Jason Bullock, Eric Bullock, Corey Bullock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eleanor graduated from Warriors Mark-Franklin High School as part of the class of 1944 and from Penn State College in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in Education and a minor in Botany. She was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church, a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1948 and a member for 53 years of the Norristown Garden Club. Eleanor’s life was largely defined by her role as a homemaker, where she lovingly tended to her family’s needs. Her career spanned multiple roles at Heinz Foods in Pittsburgh, John Wanamaker in Philadelphia and in a laboratory at Penn State.

Eleanor was passionate about cooking and ensured that her company was never served the same meal twice. Her favorite pastimes included playing Bingo, reading, gardening, and shopping. Eleanor was recognized for her exceptional patience, gentle nature, kindness, and exceptional support. She was an animal lover with a particular fondness to birds and cats. Eleanor will be missed by all who were fortunate to be in her life.

All are welcome to join Eleanor’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Fred Rudy and Pastor Janet Pratt officiating. Eleanor’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Interment will take place at a later date in Friend Cemetery in Half Moon Township Centre County.
