Frank Edwin Lentz IV

100 Years of Living in 44 -

Frank Edwin Lentz IV, age 44, of Shermans Dale, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, August 22, 2020.  Frank was born on Wednesday, May 19, 1976, in Harrisburg to Frank Edwin Lentz III and Cheryl Marcia (Freedman) Lentz.  Frank is predeceased by his two canine companions:  Withnail and Molly; and his two feline friends:  And I and Salvator.

Frank’s survivors include his wife of almost 20 years, Bretni Erin (Brink) Lentz; his two children:  Dagny Erin Hadley Lentz and Frank Edwin Lentz V; his three siblings: Joshua Lentz of Mechanicsburg, Ashley Metz and husband Kenneth of Mechanicsburg, Bradley Lentz and wife Lindsey of Alexandria, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

“Frank jammed what takes other folks 100 years of living to do into 44 years.”  A 1994 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, Frank went on to New York University, where he graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography and Journalism.  He earned his Master’s in Business Administration at West Chester University, from where he will be posthumously awarded a Ph.D. in Public Administration.  A born administrator, Frank held the positions of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Human Resources/Director of Payroll Shared Services at the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in Harrisburg; as well as an auditor for Carroll Township, Perry County, and volunteer treasurer for Shermans Dale Youth Baseball Association.  Frank was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill.  He belonged to the Mechanicsburg Club and served Hampden Township as both a former firefighter and emergency medical technician.  He was also a former EMT instructor at Harrisburg Area Community College.

Frank was a tremendously dedicated ambassador to the sport of rugby.  He was the current president of the Old Gaelic Rugby Club, past president of the Eastern PA Rugby Union, and a USA Rugby Congress representative.  In addition to his volunteer role as commissioner with Cumberland Valley Youth Rugby Association, Frank also coached his children’s teams.  When he wasn’t playing, coaching, or administrating, Frank liked to referee rugby and soccer; so much so that he would come straight from work to referee his son’s soccer games, sometimes even in his bare feet and a business suit.  Frank was a supportive dad who encouraged both his son’s enthusiasm for sports and his daughter’s affinity for singing, playing the piano, and art.  He was a thoughtful and great gift-giver.  The things and people Frank loved were immortalized in the tattoo body art he proudly wore.  Frank passed away doing what he loved; fishing and crabbing with his family in Ocean City, Maryland, his family’s second home.  Frank’s family will hold in their hearts the many memories of special times spent with their devoted and beloved dad, husband, son, and brother.

All are welcome to join Frank’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Monday, August 31, 2020, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and his memorial service starting at 1:00 p.m., all at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011, with Reverend Jack M. Horner officiating.  Burial will follow the service at 2:15 p.m. in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, PA.  In light of COVID-19, strict infection control protocols will be observed, including the proper wearing of face masks and physical distancing.  Once the church nave reaches maximum capacity, no additional guests will be seated. Those who wish to attend funeral service remotely via web streaming may do so at https://youtu.be/RCiJBnp3rPw .  The family deeply regrets that there will not be a time of food and fellowship.  Instead, they ask everyone to leave a story or memory on Frank’s obituary page at Buhrig.com.
