Frederick "Fred" Dale Bottini

Mechanicsburg

Frederick D. Bottini, 83 of Mechanicsburg passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024.  Born in Harrisburg on January 28, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles C. and Sadie Pace Griffo.

 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Susan Bitner Bottini.  He is also survived by his brother Anthony J. Bottini of Chambersburg, brother-in-law William E. Bitner of Hershey and sister-in-law Karin B. Bitner of Camp Hill.  Also surviving are three nephews and one niece as well as seven great-nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.

 

Fred was predeceased by his brother Donald E. Bottini, sisters-in-law Judy A. Bottini and Arlene H. Bottini and brother-in-law W. Craig Bitner.

 

Fred served in the Air Force Reserves.

 

He graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School, class of 1958 where he played baseball, football and basketball.  He played on the 1957 championship basketball team.  He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Shippensburg University.  He attained his Cooperative Education certification from Penn State.  Fred was employed for 30 years at Steelton-Highspire High School as a coach, teacher and Cooperative Education Coordinator. 

 

He is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown.

 

Fred was involved with the Fresh Air Fund and Big Brother/Big Sister programs, and he volunteered with church activities.

 

Sue and Fred enjoyed traveling.  They were fortunate enough to have traveled to all 50 states.  Fred also loved to sing.

 

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 44 W. Main St., Shiremanstown, PA 17011 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
