George Harry Kostjal

George Harry Kostjal, age 84, of Mechanicsburg, died on Saturday, May 17, 2025. George was born on Saturday, September 21, 1940, in Harrisburg to the late Edward Louis Kostjal, Sr. and Katie (Leininger) Wolf. George was the widower of Joyce Ann (Caruso) Kostjal, whom he married on April 24, 1965, and who died on February 15, 2007.

George’s survivors include his two children: George N. Kostjal and wife Beth, of New Cumberland, Angela Benner and husband Eric, of Mechanicsburg; his three grandchildren: Genna Bowermaster and husband Michael, Blakeley Kostjal, Quinn Benner; his companion of many years: Barbara Rider of Mechanicsburg; his brother: Edward Kostjal, Jr. and wife Elizabeth; his four sisters: Lois Morgan and husband Fred, Connie Kohr, Rebecca, and Susan.

George attended school in a one room schoolhouse in Middletown and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Appleton Paper Company after many years of service. George was an enthusiastic bowler and participated in a softball league. He enjoyed traveling, with Lake Tahoe being a preferred vacation destination. George cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

All are welcome to join George’s family at his visitation on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with military honors at 5:00 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation). Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. Cremation was private.
