George “Sonny” Parker Fertenbaugh

George “Sonny” Parker Fertenbaugh, 92, of Mechanicsburg died at Thornwald Home , Carlisle on Saturday, April 14, 2012.  He was born in Mechanicsburg on Saturday, July 19, 1919, son of the late George Bryan Fertenbaugh and Gertrude Maria (Fearnbaugh) Fertenbaugh.

Sonny graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1938.  He was a life-long farmer who retired in 2004. Sonny was a life-long member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church , Mechanicsburg. He was a quiet US Army Veteran of WWII who served with the 3rd Armored Division in Germany .

Sonny’s survivors include his loving siblings: Mabel R. McNulty, Martha J. Boyer and her husband Raymond, Paul N. Fertenbaugh and his wife Janet, Ray L. Fertenbaugh and his wife Mary, Earl E. Fertenbaugh and his wife Sandra all of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.  Among those preceding Sonny in death are his brother: John W. Fertenbaugh and his sister Elsie M. Stevenson.

All are welcome to join Sonny’s family at his viewing on Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 9:00 until time of service at 10:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, with Pastor Richard Lorenz officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Churchtown, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard .
