Helen Marie (Wolfe) May, age 92, of Mechanicsburg, died on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Helen was born on Thursday, June 8, 1933, in Mechanicsburg to the late Charles Wolfe and LaVina (Shover) Wolfe. In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her brothers: Paul Wolfe, Harold Wolfe, William “Billy” Wolfe.
Helen’s survivors include her husband of 74 years, William “Bill” Henry May, Jr.; her son: Jeffrey May and wife Ava, of Mechanicsburg; her two grandchildren: Andrea Cockrell and husband Casey, of Brownsboro, AL, Danielle Beaverson and husband Timothy “TJ”, of Mechanicsburg, her five great-grandchildren: Hailey Beaverson, James Cockrell, Emma Beaverson, Avery Cockrell, Hudson Cockrell; her brother: Charles Wolfe, Jr. and wife Dottie, of Shiremanstown; and several nieces and nephews.
Helen graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1951, where she was a homecoming queen runner-up and drum majorette for the band front. She was a longtime member of Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church where she contributed to their Sunday school program over the course of many years. Helen served as an evening supervisor at the Book of The Month Club prior to opening and operating Mays Greenhouse in Mechanicsburg with her husband, Bill, where they sold Easter and spring flowers. She had a passion for baking and regularly prepared a large plate of her tasty cookies for each of her coworkers, and orange cake for her Sunday school class, and a savory roast beef for her family.
Helen cherished her family more than anything, serving as a den mother for cub scouts and lavishing attention on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved animals, nurturing her flower beds, and enjoying cruises. Helen will be missed by those fortunate to be part of her life.
All are welcome to join Helen’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 2:00 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Chaplain Todd Carver Officiating. Helen’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship immediately following the time of remembrance. Cremation was private.
