Irene Elsie (Brooks) Wiegner, age 74, of Carlisle, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 1, 2021. Irene was born on Tuesday, August 19, 1947, in Mechanicsburg to the late David Walter Brooks, Sr. and Elsie Mae (Liddick) Brooks. In addition to her parents, Irene is preceded in death by her companion of 28 years, James “Jim” Leese, who died on February 7, 2012.
Irene’s survivors include her son, Robert “Bobby” Wiegner of Carlisle; her three grandchildren: Dominick “Dom” Mitteff of Carlisle, Alexis Wiegner of Carlisle, Haley Wiegner of Carlisle; her great-granddaughter, Mackinley Anderson; her brother, David Brooks, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; her niece, Shawnee Ward and husband, Bryan, of Mechanicsburg; and her beloved canine companion, Pugs.
Irene graduated from Mechanicsburg High School. She worked as a cook at various restaurants in Mechanicsburg such as, Why at the Well, Diener’s, and Red Lobster. Irene enjoyed listening to music, playing Yahtzee, coloring, completing crossword puzzles, camping, playing all different kinds of card games, and going to the casino. As a fan of trivia, Irene tuned in every weeknight for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She loved playing bingo and never missed a game each year at the Lisburn Community Fire Co. Festival and Jubilee Day. Irene was a talented bowler and played on various leagues with Trindle Bowl in Mechanicsburg. She just enjoyed life and was a happy-go-lucky lady that would help anyone in need. Above all else, family took up the most space in her heart; Irene was always there for them, no matter what.
All are welcome to join Irene’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Monday, October 11, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at 5:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Cremation was private.
