Jacqueline “Jackie” Elizabeth (Wirt) Scott, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026. Jackie was born on Sunday, February 25, 1945, in Walker Township, Juniata County, PA to the late Bernal "Red" Wirt and Ruth Benner Wirt. Jackie was the widow of John Dale Scott, whom she married on June 10, 1967, and who passed on November 20, 2019. In addition to her parents and husband, Jackie is preceded in death by her two sisters: Sandy Quinlan and Linda McNertney.
Jackie is survived by her two sons: Richard “Rich” Scott and his wife Sherry of Jacksonville, NC, Christopher “Chris” Scott and his fiancée Renee Walker of Stewartstown, PA; her two grandchildren: Madeline Scott, Zachary Scott; her sister: Carolyn Gearhart of Mechanicsburg, PA; and her faithful canine companion: Rico. As well as numerous nieces and nephews
Jackie graduated from Juniata Joint as part of the class of 1963. She retired from Liberty Mutual after over 20 years of service working as a mailroom attendant. Jackie enjoyed working with her hands, and while she made ceramics in her younger days, she loved working out in her yard after retirement. She was outside so often that the neighbors would notice if the ‘neighborhood mom’ was available for a quick chat as they walked by. Jackie was a very social person. Prior to her career change she ran an in-home daycare, but went on to join a gardening club, maintain her gym group at Planet Fitness, and kept up with her “cousin’s luncheons”. She will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
All are welcome to join Jackie’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler celebrating. Jackie’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Interment will take place at Mechanicsburg Cemetery privately.
