James “Jim” Ramsey Dobbs Jr, age 81, of Shippensburg, died on Monday, November 17, 2025. Jim was born on Saturday, July 1, 1944, in Mechanicsburg to the late James Ramsey Dobbs and Mary (Ward) Dobbs.
Jim’s survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy Eileen (Witmer) Dobbs; his three sons: James “Jim” Dobbs and his wife Charlotte of Carlisle, Bryan Brooks of New Kingstown, Richard “Rick” Dobbs and his wife Amy of Dillsburg; his two grandchildren: Anna Dobbs and Trey Dobbs; his two sisters: Cindy Larkin of Mechanicsburg and Frankie Hensel of Mechanicsburg; three nephews and his beloved beagle: Hank.
Jim graduated from Mechanicsburg Area High School as part of the class of 1965. He retired from Footlocker (formerly Kinney Shoes, Woolworth and Venator Group) in 2015, after over 40 years of service. Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Jim was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mechanicsburg. He was a true motorhead, and loved cleaning and tinkering with his cars. Jim could frequently be found going to South Mountain Drag Races and watching motocross racing with his sons. He was a western movie enthusiast. Jim was a quiet and laid-back man who enjoyed being out in nature with his beagles. He kept an immaculate yard and would spend hours perfecting his landscaping. Jim will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
All are welcome to join Jim’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Marleen Griffith-Stull officiating. Burial will follow the service in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
