James "Jim" Joseph Eagan, age 92, of Mechanicsburg, left this world on November 18, 2025. He was born on June 28, 1933, in Carnegie, Pennsylvania to Norbert and Marie Eagan. A proud Irishman, devoted husband and father, he leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and selflessness.

Raised in Pittsburgh, Jim met his beloved wife, Kay there too. They were married June 12, 1958 in Royersford PA. On the GI bill, Jim attended Gannon University ('59) in Erie PA where he met his friend-for life, Ron. He was a master carpenter whose craftsmanship brought joy (& furniture!) to his family and the neighbors. His bespoke furniture pieces and wooden toys became cherished heirlooms, while his custom woodwork, remote-controlled airplanes, boats, & even a submarine, showcased his fascination for building. Additionally, his enthusiasm for automobiles and his love for traveling and camping with family further highlighted a rich tapestry of interests that defined his life.

Jim had a distinguished career as a federal auditor. With the NCUA, he served as an examiner and a mentor, roles he embraced until his retirement in 1993. Even more important to him were his family, friends and community. As a veteran of the US Army, Jim remained an active member of the American Legion for 66 years, embodying the values of service and camaraderie. He also delighted in telling people he, a proud Irishman, was a life member of the Slovak Club in Erie! As a long -time resident of Mechanicsburg, Jim attended St Joseph RCC, enjoyed many fun "top-down" trips with Kay as part of the MG club plus was a 50 yr patron of the West Shore Plaza Barber Shop!

Jim was affectionately called "Papa" by family and friends. He will be sorely missed by those he leaves behind including his sons, Patrick (wife Christine) Eagan of Mechanicsburg and Christopher Eagan of Morganton, NC, along with his grandchildren, James J. Eagan, Colleen E. Eagan, Shannan G. (Joseph Dobson) Eagan, Caitlyn R. Eagan, and great-grandchildren, Rowan E. Eagan and Eleanor R. Dobson. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn Eagan, 7 years ago and recently by his daughter-in-law, Laura Eagan. His sisters Donna Hambrick, Joanne Bebko, and Eileen Kopa are also fondly remembered.

Jim's passing is felt deeply by a close-knit family and circle of friends. He will be remembered as a husband, father, friend and artisan and for his humor, intelligence & integrity. He is an inspiration, to those who had the privilege of knowing him, fed by the laughter he shared, the stories he told and the craftwork he leaves behind.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in his honor at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, on January 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM, a time for reflection and remembrance. At his request, a 'good old-fashioned wake' for family and friends will follow. A private ceremony of interment in Mechanicsburg Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, Jim has requested that memorial contributions be made to American Legion Post 109 locally or to St Jude's Children Hospital nationally.

Jim’s family has entrusted his care to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421. To view his memorial, offer condolences, share stories, upload photographs, and light a candle, please visit Buhrig.com.
