James "Jim" Alexander Punchur

James Alexander Punchur, 88, of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Born on March 3, 1938, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Jim was the son of Alexander Punchur and Nell Media. He spent his life devoted to his family, creating lasting memories through his kindness, generosity, and gift for storytelling.

Jim was the beloved husband of the late Joyce S. Punchur (née Carter), with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage before her passing. Together they built a loving family that remained the center of his life.

Jim was known for his undeniable work ethic and unwavering sense of responsibility. He dedicated more than 30 years of his career to Foot Locker, where he earned the respect of colleagues through his commitment, reliability, and pride in a job well done. Whether at work or at home, he believed in giving his best and leading by example.

In his earlier years, Jim enjoyed spending time on the golf course and found great happiness gardening alongside his beloved wife, Joyce. Those simple pleasures reflected his appreciation for time spent outdoors and the joy he found in sharing life's everyday moments with the people he loved.

He is survived by his four children: Barbara Shaeffer and her husband, Don Shaeffer, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Susan Punchur of Perry Hall, Maryland; John Punchur of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania; and Diana Leiphart of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Courtney Punchur and Carter Hagewiesche.

Jim was a dedicated husband and father who loved his family deeply. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, whether they were lifelong friends or someone he had just met. His stories, humor, and warm personality drew people in, and everyone who knew him enjoyed listening as he shared memories and experiences from a life well lived. He was truly loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim's legacy lives on through the love he gave his family, the example he set through his hard work and integrity, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless stories that will continue to be shared in his honor. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

All are welcome to join Jim’s family at his Gathering of Family and Friends on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m. all at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 East Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011; with Reverend Neil Sullivan celebrating. Friends and family are invited for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation), immediately following the service. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots.
