Janet Marie (Cooper) Williams, age 91, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved member of her community, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Letort Spring Nursing and Rehab in Carlisle. Janet was born on Saturday, March 9, 1935, in Central New York, to the late Richard "Gordon" Cooper and Elizabeth Mary (Williams) Cooper. Janet was the widow of Robert "Bob" John Williams, whom she married on March 25, 1955. Bob's passing on November 15, 1969, left a profound mark on Janet’s life, but her resilience and love for her family remained steadfast through the years. In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Cooper, and her sister-in-law, Carol Cooper.
She leaves behind a legacy woven through the lives of her family and friends. Her survivors include her two devoted children: Duane Williams of Geneva, Florida, and Timmy Williams and his wife, Mary, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Janet’s spirit lives on in her five grandchildren—Robert Williams and his wife Jessica, Stephen Williams and his wife Yaritza, Andrew Williams and his wife Megan, Zachery Williams, and Kyle Williams—and in her six great-grandchildren: Kayla, Logan, Aubrey, Daniel, Giselle, and Ivy Williams. Also, her brother Richard "Dick" Cooper, her cherished sister-in-law Nancy Cooper, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who fondly remember her generosity and sparkling smile.
A proud graduate of West Windfield Central School’s class of 1952, Janet embraced life with warmth and vibrancy. She found immense joy in her family, especially in the laughter and hugs shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janet’s heart was especially full when she was surrounded by those she loved, and she never missed an opportunity to bring happiness to others. She was passionate about crafting, spending hours creating with her hands, and thrived on staying active in her spare time.
Janet extended her caring nature beyond her immediate circle, lending her support to numerous organizations dear to her heart. She was a devoted participant in the ladies of the Red Hats, stood proudly with members of the VFW and the American Legion, and dedicated time to the VA Hospital in Central New York. Her commitment to Team Leonardsville was a source of pride and joy, reflecting her enduring spirit of community service and kindness. Janet’s life was marked by love, dedication, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew her.
The family expresses profound gratitude to the compassionate staff at Bridges of Bent Creek, Letort Spring Nursing and Rehab, and Amedisys Hospice Care for their dedicated care and support during Janet’s final days.
Join Janet’s family for her graveside service at 11:00 am. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Unadilla Forks Cemetery. A reception will follow at the VFW in West Winfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Team Leonardsville, C/O Caroline Pritchard, P.O. Box 107, Leonardsville, NY 13364.
