Janet Marie (Walker) Eshleman

Janet Marie (Walker) Eshleman, age 87, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.  Janet was born on Monday, April 8, 1935, in Mechanicsburg to the late George William Walker, Sr. and Mary Alice (Allen) Walker.  In addition to her parents, Janet is preceded in death by her son, David Eshleman; her brother, William Walker; and her three sisters: Shirley Bender, Alice Lehmer, June Shiebley.

Janet’s survivors include her two daughters: Yvonne Bryson and her husband, George, of Enola; Patricia “Pat” Sowers and her husband, Bruce, of Newport; her son, Frederick “Mark” Eshleman, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; her five grandchildren: Frederick Eshleman, III, Riley Eshleman, Nicholus Bryson, Jessica Sowers, Rachel Evans; her 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Walker and his wife, Millie, of Harrisburg; her sister, Kathy McGruber of Elgin, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Janet graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1954.  She was a longtime member of Young’s United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, and was a member of Appalachian Trail Hikers Society.  An avid hiker, Janet hiked the Appalachian Trail all through Pennsylvania and lead group hikes along it as well.  She also hiked in Maryland and even in Ireland.  In her free time, Janet enjoyed playing pinochle with a large number of her fellow hikers, golfing and was an excellent decorator.  She liked going to Rehoboth Beach and loved going on the family’s mother and daughter beach trips.  Janet will be deeply missed, but her family takes solace in knowing that “she lived the best life her country had to offer”.

All are welcome to join Janet’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and her virtual gathering of family and friends and service via video chat or telephone beginning at 11:45 a.m.; with Pastor Robert V. Bishard, Jr. officiating.  Janet’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Interment in Mechanicsburg Cemetery will be at the family's convenience.  Cremation was private.
