Janice "Jan" Marie (Burke) Atwood

Janice “Jan” Marie (Burke) Atwood, age 79, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Rochester, NY died on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.  Janice was born on Tuesday, June 6, 1944, in Rochester, NY to the late Lawrence J. Burke and Marie (McKelvie) Burke.  In addition to her parents, Jan is preceded in death by her son: John Scott Atwood.

 

Janice’s survivors include her husband of 57 years, Robert “Bob” Gerald Atwood of Mechanicsburg; her daughter: Elizabeth Atwood Bolden and her children, Carolyn N. Bolden and Jennifer L. Bolden of Mechanicsburg; her sister: Beverly Wilferth Widmer and her husband John; her nephew: Dr. John G. Fahrbach, IV and his wife, Charlene, and children, Jackson and Gwyneth; and her brother-in-law: Daniel Augus and his wife, Mary, and daughter Jennifer; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Janice graduated from Nazareth Academy in Rochester, NY in 1957 and attended Albany Teacher’s College.  She was a tax preparer who began her career at H&R Block, and subsequently became the owner of her own tax preparation business with a loyal client following who often sought her advice and counsel on financial matters beyond tax preparation.  She was an avid reader, skilled mathematician, and financial management expert. She served her community through volunteer service on many boards and committees, most significantly at her church, the Enola First Church of God where she was a member.  At EFOC, Janice served as the Assistant Church Treasurer, was on the Stewards Team, served as a teacher in the Children’s Ministry and volunteered in the Church Nursery.  Grammy, as she was lovingly known to her granddaughters and their friends, was a consistent and beloved presence at school and sporting events.

 

All are welcome to join Janice’s family at her viewing on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a service beginning at 11:45 a.m. all at Enola First Church of God, 9 Sherwood Drive, Enola, PA 17025; with Pastor George Jensen officiating.  Janice’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the church immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the reception in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
