Jean (Phelps) McCusker

Jean (Phelps) McCusker, age 75, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 16, 2023.  Jean was born on Thursday, February 20, 1947, in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Henry A. Phelps, Jr. and Elizabeth Alvena Smith.

Jean’s survivors include her loving husband of 29 years, Larry “Doug” McCusker; her daughter, Jessica Stone and her husband, Mike; her son, Jonathan DiSalvo; her three step-children: Michael “Mike” McCusker and his fiancé, Lisa Foster; Tereasa McCusker Kinnear; Kevin McCusker and his wife, Vonda Hampton; her five grandchildren: Jordan, Joseph, Jared, Paxton, and Avery; her great-granddaughter, Eleanor Marie; her sisters: Nancy Borders and her husband, Corky; Betsy Francisco; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.  For over 20 years, she worked as a social worker in numerous long term care facilities, in both Delaware and Pennsylvania.  Jean was an ordained Elder of the Presbyterian Church and an active member of St. James Presbyterian Church. She served as a deacon and on the worship committee, enjoyed singing in the church choir (as well as singing duets with her husband), was a member of the St. James Sewing Circle, and also volunteered as a reader for St. James preschool. In her free time, Jean enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and word searches, was an avid reader, and was talented at sewing. She also enjoyed gardening, making floral arrangements and traveling.  Jean will be deeply missed.

All are welcome to join Jean’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of life beginning at 1:00 p.m. all at St. James Presbyterian Church, 1425 Orrs Bridge Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.  Cremation was private.
