Jewell A. (Smith) Wachtman entered into her eternal rest on July 26, 2011. Jewell was a resident of Emeritus of Creekview in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Miss Jewell was born July 27, 1926 in Lanett, Alabama to William and Eunice Smith.
Jewell was married to David Darlington Wachtman (deceased) of Harrisburg. Jewell’s four children, Diane Anderbery (Vance) of Harrisburg, Melissa Konhaus (Paul) of Mechanicsburg, David T. Wachtman (Sonia) of Harrisburg, and Michael Wachtman (Jackie) of Mechanicsburg wish to thank all of the care-givers of Emeritus of Creekview as well as the staff of Odyssey Hospice, who tended to their mother’s needs and care. Jewell had been a resident of Emeritus since February of 2001.
Jewell had a severe stroke in 1996 and was stricken with dementia. She developed congestive heart problems along with kidney disease. In spite of her many ailments she fought the good fight and successfully ran the race set before her.
Jewell was in the nursing profession for over twenty years. She was an aide at the then Dauphin County Home and Hospital. She was so well-liked by all the residents that she was known as the ‘Angel’. Jewell’s only creed in life was “to do unto others as you would want done unto you”. She gave to all of her patients the very best care they could receive. She retired and moved to Mechanicsburg where she eventually went back into nursing at Seidle Memorial Hospital.
Along with her four children Jewell leaves eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
All are welcome to join Jewell’s family at her Graveside Service at 11:00 on Friday, July 29, 2011 in Mechanicsburg Cemetery with Chaplain Keith A. Searfoss officiating.
